BABY AND TODDLER SHOW

BABY AND TODDLER SHOW - SYDNEY 2012

We went to our FIRST expo the other weekend in Sydney! The Baby & Toddler Show from the 28th-30th of September 2012 was our first venture into expanding the Total Bag Envy brand.

Kym and I were in high spirits as we got off the plane in Sydney and made our way to the exhibition centre to set up our stall. We thought that we had this down pat and that we could walk in to the expo, set up our stall and be out in half an hour, leaving plenty of time to explore the city. So, dragging two huge 23kg bags as well as another 20kg in satchels AND our own bags AND all of our eftpos and banking stuff we made our way from one end of the exhibition centre to the other end (as our driver had dropped us off at the wrong end). Still in high spirits albeit a little sore, we got our bright yellow vests and went to walk through the door when we were told we weren’t allowed in! What???

Apparently we hadn’t read the brief properly and we were wearing the wrong shoes!  We were supposed to be wearing closed in shoes and we hadn’t even packed any. Luckily, they let us store our multiple and heavy bags so we could go to the closest shopping centre. Can you imagine? We HAD to go shopping in Sydney for shoes! Why didn’t we read the brief properly? Two hours later we emerge from the shops, shoe bags in hand (plus others) and make our way back to set up our stall thinking that if that was the worst that could happen, we were laughing. We laughed too soon…

Finally being allowed in the doors with even more bags in tow we arrive at our stand to find it completely empty. Ummm, they were supposed to have had it set up two hours ago! So a couple of phone calls later we found out the truck had broken down! Of course it had! Plus, they didn’t know what was on the truck, so if we hadn’t have rung them, they would never have showed up! Clearly not the best recording systems they have there. Two long hours later, they arrive and set up our stall in record time and leave. We had our shelves for our stall up and the set up could begin.

That is, of course, until we put one bag on the shelf and the whole wall nearly came crashing down! Apparently they hadn’t put them up right! So after bribing guys with lollies, they fixed our stall (and the others that were affected) for us so that we wouldn’t have to walk in the next day with the entire row on the ground. I could just imagine the faces on everyone if that had of happened!

Finally, we could set up our stall with everything we needed there and no chance of anything falling down. Luckily for us, nothing else went wrong for us that weekend. And we can now safely laugh about it! Our first expo was a success and we had such a great time at it, we plan to do it all again next year! We just have to remember our closed in shoes… or do we???
